Some people rely on their financial advisers to provide them with stock market performance charts and other economic data. But if you are a hands-on kind of person or one who sleeps easier knowing you are handling everything yourself, you will probably want to be updated with all kinds of stock market performance data. Put it simply, you would want to know the performance of the stock market inside out.
In this internet age, information is readily available but not all sources are created equal. Since any error or tardiness in data may possibly cause you to make a wrong decision that is critical, it is important for you to only put your trust in reliable sources. The investor has to be cautioned against slipping into a short-term mentality where he forgets about the big picture.
It is also worth pointing out that most people today tend to look at the stock market performance from a fundamental, technical or hybrid perspective. By "fundamental", the investor places emphasis on the current news and even speculation or rumors. By "technical", the investor relies primarily on indicators, moving averages and likes. By "hybrid", the investor takes a pinch of salt and considers both.
There is no sure-win formula or so called "holy grail" to succeed in the stock market. What may work perfectly for one may fail utterly for another. The best way forward would be for the investor to try out a variety of methods and then finally settles for one that he is most comfortable with.
